Exhibition – l’Intelligence Artificielle d’avant-garde dans les années 1990
18th-22nd December, 2023
From the 18th December to 22nd December, the VUB (Vrije Universiteit Brussel - Artificial Intelligence Laboratory), the KVAB (Royal Flemish Academy of Belgium for the Arts and Sciences) and KBR organised an ephemeral exhibition as part of the celebration of 40 years of artificial intelligence (AI) research at the VUB and in Belgium.
The exhibition focused on the avant-garde AI of the 1980s and 1990s. The 1980s saw a great deal of scientific interest in self-organising systems, chaos theory and the theory of complex networks. These concepts found applications in physics and chemistry, but also in biology and neuroscience. This pop-up exhibition shows how all these concepts influenced AI in the 1990s, with autonomous robots, artificial life experiments and the resurgence of neural networks.
Luc Steels from Muhai was involved in the organization of this interesting exhibition into the history of AI.
